French hotels, restaurants face hard sell

News

FRANCE – French hotel, restaurant and café owners gathered in Paris for a ‘speed-dating’ session in search of buyers.

Around 60 owners from the Cantal region in central France came to Paris for the speed-dating-style event, having found the market slow in their region. Unfortunately, prospective buyers were few and far between, even in the capital.

According to owner of restaurant La Grange aux Fleurs, Denis Dufosset, the hard work involved in owning a hotel or restaurant is of little interest to young French professionals today. Many are more interested in factory work or the civil service and the accompanying 35-hour work week, he says.
