BESydney has announced three international association bid wins. The organisation has won CogSci 2023, the 67th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference 2024, and The Web Conference 2025.
In addition to these events, BESydney has two incentive wins with Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad and Pru Life UK.
CogSci 2023
CogSci 2023, The Cognitive Science Society conference, will run from 26-29 July and is set to attract more than 800 global researchers. The focus of the conference will be to better understand the human mind, while fostering interdisciplinary networking between researchers in Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Anthropology, Psychology, Neuroscience, Philosophy, and Education.
International delegations are expected to be dominated by attendees from the US, where most of the Society’s membership is based. This will be the first time the event is in Australia and will be held at the International Convention Centre Sydney.
BESydney estimates the conference will generate AUS $2.7m (USD $1.82m) in direct expenditure to the local economy.
67th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference
The 67th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference is to be held in November 2024 during the Bicentenary year of the NSW Legislative Council. The NSW Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Branch’s nomination was recently endorsed at the association’s General Assembly in Halifax, Canada.
The conference, to be held at the International Convention Centre Sydney, is expected to attract 700 delegates from 53 Commonwealth countries over six days and is estimated to be worth AUS $3.2m (USD $2.15m) to the local economy.
The Web Conference 2025
The ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Web Conference Steering Committee has selected Sydney to host The Web Conference (WebConf) in 2025. WebConf is the annual gathering of the ACM Special Interest Group on Hypertext, Hypermedia and Web (SIGWEB) Society and is set to attract 1,000 global delegates.
Established in 1994, the Conference covers the evolution of the Web, the standardisation of its associated technologies, and the impact of those technologies on society and culture. The event is estimated to be worth AUS $3.7m (USD $2.49m) in direct expenditure.
Incentives
BESydney has additionally announced Sydney’s as the host destination for the four-day, 400-delegate Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad Incentive 2022, and the four-day 250-delegate Pru Life UK annual incentive out of the Philippines, both to be held in September this year.
Together, the events will generate a further AUS $2.9m (USD $1.95m) in direct expenditure.
BESydney CEO, Lyn Lewis-Smith, said: “These bid wins demonstrate that we are continuing where we left off pre-pandemic, with success attracting the world’s top events that will help accelerate the development and growth of homegrown industries of the future.”
CogSci 2023 and WebConf 2025 were event bids backed by Business Events Australia funding support.
Tourism Australia Managing Director, Phillipa Harrison added that the Business Events Bid Fund Program is helping to deliver a strong pipeline of international business events in Australia.
Harrison commented: “These events will bring around 1,800 delegates to Australia, inject millions of dollars into the economy and showcase Australia’s world-class business events offering.”
