AMERICAS – The San Diego Convention Center Corporation (SDCCC) has awarded Smart City Networks a new, 10-year contract to provide data, telecommunications and technology services at the San Diego Convention Center.
The news follows a competitive bid process. The deal extends Smart City’s link as a technology provider with the SDCCC since 2000.
Smart City will continue to provide technology service to clients of the facility and will add additional services and upgrades as part of the new agreement.
“We are thrilled to extend our partnership into the next decade,” said SDCCC president Carol Wallace. “These planned technology upgrades will ensure that San Diego is one of the premier meeting and convention destinations in the country.”
The agreement, effective 1 July, 2015, includes a design established for 800 new Cisco 3702 access points – an upgrade that will allow for a greater number of guests and their wireless devices to access the Internet at faster speeds.
There will also be a new lobby digital signage system.
Smart City will also install a Neutral Host Distributed Antenna System (DAS). The DAS is designed to cope with the exponential increase in cellular network traffic that is seen during some of the building’s largest events.

The San Diego Convention Center Corporation is a public corporation created by the city to manage, market and operate the waterfront facility. The centre is currently celebrating 25 years of service.
