SECC to host Olympic conference

News

UK – The Scottish Exhibition and Convention Centre is to host the International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport (ICSEMIS), which will be held in the run-up to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Attracting around 3,000 delegates, the nine-day convention is estimated to generate £5m worth of economic impact for Glasgow.

The venue’s director of sales, Ben Goedegebuure, says the event will strengthen the city’s credentials for hosting major sporting events. “The SECC will be playing an integral part in the 2014 Commonwealth Games when they come to Glasgow and this pre-Olympic conference further represents our continuing commitment to supporting and staging major sporting events.”

The Glasgow City Marketing Bureau worked with the Brunel ICSEMIS 2012 Consortium on the successful bid. The convention runs from 19 to 27 July 2012.
