ASIA – Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) has been awarded The BrandLaureate Country Branding Award 2011-12 for its role in promoting Sarawak and Malaysia as a leading destination in the area of business events, tourism and business investment.

“Through its various initiatives, SCB has promoted the attributes of Sarawak to the world as a modern and progressive stare and at the same time maintaining its heritage and culture,” says President of Asia Pacific Brands Foundation (APBF), Dr KK Johan.

The BrandLaureate Branding Awards, organised by APBF, were held on 8 May 2012 at the Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa, Selangor. The awards honour brand excellence among the best brands in Malaysia and the world.

“On behalf of SCB, we are truly honoured to be receiving this award and it is a stepping stone to further showcase Sarawak as an internationally renowned destination for business events,” says Chairman of SCB, Dato’ Sri Dr Muhd Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah.

Since 2009, SCB has won nine international destination marketing awards. In 2008 SCB was awarded ICCA Best Marketing Award after competing with 80 business events destinations from around the world, becoming the first Asian destination to win the award. In 2010 Kuching earned its place, for the first time, in the International Convention and Congress Association (ICCA) Asia Pacific and Middle East City ranking, sharing 42nd spot with Mara and Guangzhou.

Managing Director of SCB, Mike Cannon says: “SCB’s marketing core and re-branding exercises have put Sarawak on the international map and increased business opportunities for the state. These are evident through the many awards and conference bids that the Bureau has won over the years.”
