USA – Effective of 11 January 2011, the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau (SFCVB) will be rebranded as San Francisco Travel Association.
The SFCVB Board of Directors voted unanimously to change the name, which has been in place since 1921.
“Over the past 100 years, this organisation has grown and developed as the sales and marketing agency for San Francisco’s tourism industry,” said SFCVB President and CEO, Joe D’Alessandro.
“Today, the word ‘bureau’ doesn’t accurately describe who we are. In fact, we are far from ‘bureaucratic’,” he added.
The name change is part of a year long Centennial Project for the SFCVB, which is designed to “prepare the organisation to best meet the challenges of the next 100 years”. The project included the appointment of Paul Frentsos to the newly-created position of Executive VP and Chief Operating Officer.
