AMERICAS – Rotary International, the organisation that unites over a million business professionals worldwide, sent a delegation of its International Convention Organising Committee to São Paulo ahead of the event which takes place in the city in 2015.
Members of the committee, along with President-Elect Gary Huang (2014-15), visited the city’s major tourist attractions and took in a samba class. A video promoting the city was shot during the visit, to be made available to Rotary members in 180 countries and will be used to invite them to take part in the 2015 convention.
São Paulo Convention & Visitors Bureau (SPCVB) has backed Rotary International’s Brazilian representatives bid for the convention, launched in 2005.
São Paulo clinched the right to host the 2015 event in 2009, winning from rival bidders in the US, Houston and Phoenix.
The 2015 International Convention is one of the biggest in the world and is expected to attract 30,000 participants to São Paulo.
The Organising Committee delegation used its visit to select the venue spaces that will stage parallel events during the convention for which the Anhembi Exhibition Center will be used for the main sessions.
Rotary International was founded in Chicago, USA, in 1905 by business leaders and professionals who provide humanitarian services.
There are 1,200,000 Rotarians taking part in 34,000 Rotary Clubs around the world.
