ITALY – Rimini’s space-age design convention centre, Palacongressi, has delayed its opening to 11 September. The Fiera group, which manages the new Palacongressi project cites “technical” difficulties with the construction for the delay.
The inaugural event will now be on 14 September 2010, the 14th International Biotechnology Symposium and Exhibition.
The original schedule envisaged the first event, 5-8 May. That will still go ahead, but in the existing conference centre.
July’s BTC Meetings and Events Industry in Italy expo will move, however, to Rimini Expo Centre.
Convention Bureau della Riviera di Rimini Chairman Mauro Ioli, says over a thousand international scholars are expected in Rimini for BTC. The previous edition of the IBS was held in China in 2008.
Ioli says the postponement followed a technical assessment with the construction company, and the decision “taken to guarantee the finishing of work before proceeding with the final stages of installing furnishings, fittings and technology, according to the strictest quality and reliability criteria, indispensable for a venue of great prestige, such as the new Palacongressi conference centre”.
A spokesperson at the venue tells CMW: “Four months will allow us to ensure the utmost quality of the finishing work. Obviously we are sorry about the inconvenience caused to our clients, but Rimini as a destination and our company are not losing any scheduled events, as we are running them in our existing conference centre.”
