Putting events centre stage in Russia’s Far East

The Russian Convention Bureau is lending its weight to injecting events into the business programme of the country’s annual Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), which is taking place this year, 11-13 September, at the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) on Russky Island, Vladivostok City.

The RCB is on campus to participate in the session titled, ‘Far East in the Center of Attention’, on 13 September. The session will discuss how to select and attract international events to the region, and how to use effectively the similar experiences of Pacific Asia countries for the benefit of the Far East region.

Another question on the agenda is whether PPPs can become an instrument for effective development and improvement of the event infrastructure of the region.

Russian and international experts from the meetings industry, entrepreneurs and representatives of various bodies of authority of Russia’s regions will join the discussion.

The Russian authorities clearly believe in the event potential of the region and its potential to influence the social and economic development of the Far East.

The RCB, which was created in 2017 with support of the government of the Russian Federation, has launched a range of events to promote the country as a great event destination, and has set itself an ambitious target to attract major international happenings to Russia.

The national bureau is also charged with creating and implementing a marketing strategy for promoting Russia and opportunities in the country for holding business events.

The administration of Primorsky Krai, and governments of Kamchatka Krai and Sakhalin Region, are all expected to sign formal agreements with the bureau at the Eastern Economic Forum.

“The main goal of these agreements is to expand strategic co-operation of the Russian Convention Bureau with Russian regions,” says RCB director Alexey Kalachev.

“We have already signed strategic partnership agreements with 10 regional bodies of authority and nine major industry unions and associations,” he adds. “As a result, we seek to increase the share of Russia on the international market of business events.”

The EEC says it has plans to invite the RCB members as experts and speakers at various seminars and plenary sessions, including ‘Science Outposts: Creating the Future Today’, and ‘Development of Tourism: A Cluster Approach and Export of Tourism Services’.

The RCB will represent Russia at upcoming international exhibitions of the event industry, including at IBTM World in late November.
