AMERICAS – Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau President & CEO Jack Ferguson has welcomed The World Meeting of Families meeting and Papal Visit to the city in September 2015.
The Papal visit and the conference, announced by the Vatican, are expected to generate a combined economic impact of $417.8m for Philadelphia and the region. This Stateside visit will mark the Pontiff’s first to the United States as Pope. He will be only the fourth reigning Pontiff to visit the USA.
Ferguson, who chairs the Hospitality/Visitor Experience Committee for the 8th World Meeting of Families, said he was “thrilled” to share the news that Pope Francis had officially confirmed he will be in Philadelphia for the event, 25-27 September. “What an honour for Philadelphia!” the PCVB chief added.
The World Meeting of Families is a triennial global event and is being held in the United States for the first time.
The Philadelphia dates are the only confirmed US visit by Pope Francis at this time. The Holy Father is expected to participate in the closing events of the conference and celebrate a Papal Mass on 27 September on Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
