AMERICAS – Seven mayoral candidates have put forward their plans to tackle the challenges and opportunities for the city’s travel and tourism business.
Philadelphia’s Mayoral Candidates Forum on Hospitality and Tourism took place on 17 April at the Liberty View Ballroom in the city.
There are 65,000 leisure and hospitality jobs in Philadelphia according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics and 40,000 full-time jobs are supported by visitor spending, which also generates US$5.8bn in annual economic impact and US$400m in state and local tax revenue. The tax revenue helps fund priority programs and services such as fire and police departments and maintenance of public infrastructure.
Staff, board members and stakeholders from The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association, the Independence Visitor Center Corporation, the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority and Visit Philadelphia were invited to find out how the candidates plan to support their important industry, made up of hotels, restaurants, attractions, transportation and more.
