The Perth Convention Bureau’s (PCB) Aspire Programme concluded for the year with the Aspire Awards Ceremony, held on 2 June at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC).
There were 55 applications and 11 awards. The awards give winners professional development funding to attend and attract conferences to Western Australia.
University of Western Australia lecturer, Peter Carr, was the winner of the City of Perth Convention Scholarship and will use the award to attend the 4th World Congress on Vascular Access (WoCoVA) 2016 in Lisbon, Portugal. He will also promote the 2nd Australian Vascular Access Society scientific meeting and World Congress on Vascular Access ‘Special Event’ taking place in Perth next year.
Other winners included: Tanya Langford (Peel Youth Services) winner of the City of Mandurah Convention Scholarship, Matthew Wittorff (Senses Australia) winner of Giving West Aspire Conference Scholarship, and professor Anthony Kicic (Telethon Kids Institute) winner of the Telethon Kids Institute Aspire Conference Award.
PCB CEO, Paul Beeson, said: “The programme has been responsible for contributing more than AUS$100m (US$72.22m) to the Western Australian economy as well as playing a key role in securing conferences that have and will continue to contribute to advancing the State’s broad expertise and knowledge in a wide range of industries”.
The awards were presented by, master of ceremonies, Karen Tighe. VIP guests included the right hon. the lord mayor, Lisa-M. Scaffidi.
Meanwhile in Melbourne, the AIME tradeshow has appointed Ali Thompson as sales manager. She previously worked for Carlson Wagonlit Travel in Sydney and has also served on the AIME Advisory Board.
AIME 2017 will be held in Melbourne, Australia, 21-22 February and it will be the show’s 25th anniversary.
