ASIA – Melia Hotels International, the first Spanish hotel to operate in China, has announced further growth in the country with plans to open a new hotel in the city of Chongqing.
Melia Chongqing will open in 2015 and will be the third Melia hotel in China, adding to the current portfolio which includes the Gran Melia Shanghai, open since 2009, and the Gran Melia Xian, which is scheduled to open in 2013.
“In the coming years we will continue to advance the positioning of our brand in China, to become one of the tourist development leaders in this market and strengthen our leadership position among the major international hotel chains,” says Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Melia Hotels International, Gabriel Escarrer.
The hotel, developed by MCC Hong Chen Real Estate, will be the first international 5-star hotel on the mountain of Tie Shan Ping and will follow the LEED Gold standards, the certification for sustainable construction.
Situated just 20 minutes from the centre of Chongqing the hotel will have 280 rooms, three restaurants and space for events and conferences.
