Meetings Matter for #GMID 2023

‘Meetings Matter’ is the 2023 theme for Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID). The Meetings Mean Business coalition has announced the 2023 international day of advocacy will be held on 30 March.

The Meetings Matter theme will showcase the economic and societal importance of face-to-face meetings, and the campaign will stress the importance of sharing tat with elected officials and business leaders.

Last year GMID was celebrated on 7 April, 2022, and it broke records –receiving more than 40 million impressions worldwide.

GMID events took place in 30 countries.

Prior to the pandemic (2019), meetings and events accounted for 42% of all business travel spending and 11%of all travel spending in the US. The nearly $130bn in meetings-related travel spending in the US directly supported 800,000 American jobs, $42bn in employee payroll and $19bn in federal, state and local tax receipts.

The US Travel Association has said it will produce a toolkit in early 2023 to help the industry demonstrate the power of face-to-face meetings, including resources such as: Key messages and economic impact; social media guide; video; sample LinkedIn copy; and sample press release.
