Las Vegas named world’s leading conference destination for 5th time

Las Vegas has been named the world’s leading meetings and conference destination for 2017 at the World Travel Awards. It is the fifth consecutive year the destination has been recognised in this category.

“Cathy Tull, senior vice-president of marketing for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) said there had been continual investment in product by the resort partners in their meetings offerings, “and we look forward to even more exciting developments in the years to come”.

The World Travel Awards’ voting for the final awards is determined by qualified executives working within travel and tourism, and the consumer travel buyer.

Nearly 22,000 meetings and conventions take place in Las Vegas annually and, in 2016, the destination welcomed a record-breaking 42.9m visitors, of which 6.3m people had travelled to the destination for business purposes.

Future developments include expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center District (LVCCD). The renovation project will add 130,000sqm to the Las Vegas Convention Center’s existing footprint.

Construction of the expansion phase is projected to be complete by the end of 2020 in advance of CES 2021.
