Just days before hosting – at short notice – one of the most prominent events held by the United Nations, the COP25 Climate Summit, Spanish venue and organiser IFEMA will join the United Nations Global Compact, the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world. By joining the Compact, IFEMA joins 13,000 entities from over 170 countries and commits itself to aligning its operations with the 10 Principles of the United Nations Global Compact with respect to human rights, labour standards, the environment and the fight against corruption, as well as to adopting measures in support of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
IFEMA stepped in to host the global climate summit, COP25, 2-13 December, after original hosts Chile had to pull out due to civil unrest in the capital Santiago.
According to Eduardo López-Puertas, IFEMA MD, “since the implementation of the CSR Master Plan, IFEMA has strengthened its commitment to promoting the SDGs”.
With this new commitment, IFEMA is going one step further in promoting the sustainability of the 700+ events that are held every year at its facilities and solidifying its commitment to the four million visitors and 35,000 companies that participate in its activity each year.
The United Nations Global Compact operates in Spain through the Spanish Network, which currently has more than 1,534 entities attached to this corporate social responsibility initiative.
