WORLD – Industry veteran and former ICCA CEO Tom Hulton received the Moises Schuster Award at the ICCA Congress Gala Dinner, 25 October.
The award is made in honour of one of the association’s founding fathers and recognises outstanding service to the meetings industry.
Hulton was appointed CEO in 1992 and served a seven-year stint, before going to work as an industry consultant.
ICCA President Arnaldo Nardone called Hulton “a great advocate for our association” and praised his work in developing the IMEX Politicians Forum.
Data management company Spotme donated 5,000 euros to a Children’s Hospital in Leipzig after data overload, blamed on a Chinese font, crashed 200 of the devices by which delegates communicate with messages and images.
The system failed just as voting was due to take place for the Best Marketing Award.
Spotme lead engineer Ivan Probst apologised to delegates for the inconvience. “We’re really sorry. As soon as we saw it happen we had someone in the office in Switzerland fix it straight away.”
The ICCA Congress closes 27 October at the Convention Centre Leipzig.
Delegates will be gathering for the 51st ICCA Congress 2012 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
