WORLD – International hotel group, Hilton Worldwide, has appointed Edmond Ip as its Chairman for Greater China.
Ip will act as an adviser to Hilton Worldwide, primarily overseeing all of the company’s operational interests in Greater China, including implementing a new organisational structure, assisting in recruiting staff, and aggregating the growth from the numerous hotel openings in the next few years.
He will be based between Singapore and Shanghai.
Recently, Ip was a Non-Executive Director and Chief Adviser to the Board of the Kosmopolito Hotels International and prior to this, he worked for Intercontinental Hotels Group, where he was for 10 years. He has also held senior postitions at CDL Hotel International, Thai Wah Group of Companies, and Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts.
“China has become one of Hilton Worldwide’s most important markets outside the US. Ip’s extensive 30-year experience in the hospitality business will be an asset as we chart an accelerated growth path to increase our trading hotels from 18 to over 100 in the next five years,” said President for Asia Pacific at Hilton Worldwide, Martin Rinck.
To achieve greater efficiency and effective management, Hilton Worldwide has taken the decision to geographically segment its China operations further into three sub-regions: the North, Central and South.
As a result of the new appointment, the current GM of Hilton Shanghai, Guy Hutchinson, will become Regional GM for the Northern region in Beijing. Paul Hutton, currently GM of Hilton Sydney will assume the position of Regional GM for the Southern region, based out of Hong Kong. Timothy Soper, VP of Operations will assume responsibility for the Central region, while at the same time continuing his role as Head of Operations for China in Shanghai.
