Helsinki brings Nokia World mobile event convention home

News

EUROPE – The Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre (HECC) has won the 2012 edition of Nokia World, an annual convention dedicated to the mobile phone manufacturer’s products.

Nokia hosted its annual Nokia World event in London last year, but the event, which attracted around 3,000, is returning to the Finnish company’s homeland for 2012. The HECC sits just miles from the Nokia’s headquarters in Espoo.

Traditionally, Nokia has used the event to present its news. This year customers, partners, application developers, analysts, media representatives and other stakeholders will attend the event to promote and learn about each other’s products.

Nokia World 2012 takes place 25-26 September at the HECC’s new Hall 7, which opened in September 2011.

A spokesman for the HECC said the role of Helsinki as the World Design Capital 2012 may have been a consideration in Nokia’s decision to move.

More than 90 per cent of waste at the HECC is now recycled and the venuehopes to hit a target of 95 per cent next year.
