GERMANY – Forty per cent of organisers in Germany are producing more events in 2010 than in 2009 according to a survey launched at meetings exhibition IMEX, taking place in Frankfurt this week.

The Meetings and Event Barometer 2011 survey was produced by the European Association of Event Centers (EVVC), the German Convention Bureau (GCB) and the German National Tourist Board (GTB).

In 2010 67 per cent of organisers surveyed had bigger budgets than during the previous year and 91 per cent said Germany’s image as a conference and events destination is getting better and better.

GCB’s MD Matthias Schultze said: “The optimism of the industry is back. Operators and service providers alike are aware of the many benefits that Germany as a conference destination has to offer. Germany also offers excellent value for money.”

Chairman of IMEX, Ray Bloom, said: “Germany represents the largest outbound market within the European MICE industry. As with many other areas of the world over the past few years, however, Germany has had to face its fair share of economic challenges. I am delighted to see in this report that prospects for the German economy are changing for the better.”
