Tallinn, Estonia has won the the right to host the annual European Congress of the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect (ISPCAN). The event, which is expected to draw 600 international delegates to the city, will be held in June 2022.
The four-day congress, ‘Child Protection for the Most Vulnerable Children and Families’ will focus on mental health and disorders, prisoners, aspects of sexual and other abuse, domestic violence, child protection for children of incarcerated (and addicted) parents, cross-border cooperation and the implementation of digital services in the field.
Brit Tammiste, head of the organising committee of ISPCAN 2022, commented: “We are proud that the ISPCAN Congress will take place in the Baltic region for the first time. It will be an excellent opportunity to showcase our experiences in the sphere of child protection, in relation to dealing with child abuse and neglect in Estonia as well as being the initiator of discussions on these matters on an international arena. Different digital solutions have an important role in the development of a country, as organizers we could introduce application opportunities from the perspective of child protection as well as organizing the Congress.”
Local congress organiser Publicon PCO worked on the bid in collaboration with the Estonian Convention Bureau, Tallinn Convention Bureau and local authorities: The Estonian Ministries of Justice and Social Affairs, the Child Protection Department of the Social Insurance Board, the Bar Association, the Office of the Prosecutor General and the University of Tartu and several NGOs.
