Lord mayor Graham Quirk has announced that Brisbane, Queensland has secured a key global forum for innovations in agriculture, entitled GFIA in Focus. The event will be held at the Brisbane Convention Bureau in early September.
Cr Quirk said Queensland was Australia’s premier state for fruit and vegetable production, growing one third of the nation’s produce, with the Greater Brisbane region playing a leading role.
Promoting sustainable food production, GFIA in Focus demonstrates Brisbane Convention Bureau’s efforts to align major conventions with the city’s key industries.
GFIA in Focus will see 2,000 delegates from across the Asia-Pacific region visit Brisbane for a two-day conference which is expected to generate AUD$2.3m US$17.7m in economic impact for the city.
Quirk continued: “We are taking advantage of Brisbane’s position as the closest eastern seaboard capital city to Asia, which provides supply chain advantages within the food production industry.
“Growing Brisbane’s food and agribusiness industry is part of the city’s strategy to boost our economy…Brisbane is a growing hub for food and agricultural technology innovation, with a reputation for high-quality, clean and green products,” added Quirk.
