SPAIN – Directors from 25 international convention centres came to take a look at the Barcelona International Convention Centre’s (CCIB) temporary waste transfer plant recently.
The visit was part of The International Association of Congress Centre’s Event Management Summit held in the city.
The plant, inaugurated in October 2008, is a pioneer in Spain as it sorts waste products into six types, one step beyond the criteria established by municipal regulations, which requires separating waste into five groups.
The CCIB is confident of receiving the ISO 14001 soon, a regulation that establishes how to introduce an efficient environmental management system.
CCIB’s environmental policy earned it an award for its commitment to sustainability from Reed Travel Exhibitions’ EIBTM 2009.
