The CCIB (Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona) will host the ESMO Gastrointestinal Cancers Congress from 2-5 July, an event that will bring together over 3,500 medical professionals from more than 80 countries.
Organised by the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the annual congress returns to Barcelona after last year’s Munich event. Medical oncologists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiologists and researchers will be gathering in Barcelona to share knowledge on digestive cancer diagnosis, treatment and patient care.
The four-day programme features more than 40 sessions, from multidisciplinary tumour board simulations and clinical debates to educational lectures and professional development opportunities for young oncologists.
This year’s edition has expanded significantly, featuring 4,000sqm of exhibition space and 21 pharmaceutical company sessions, reflecting growing industry and scientific interest in the congress.
“This congress is a great opportunity for researchers in the field to present their studies to fellow specialists,” said Dr Teresa Macarulla from Vall d’Hebron Hospital Barcelona, co-scientific chair of the congress. “Just as cancer knows no borders … medical care should not have them either.”
The event strengthens Barcelona’s position as a leading international medical congress destination. The CCIB will host 12 major medical congresses this year, with the second half set to be particularly busy. Upcoming events include the World Congress on Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS), the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) congress, the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) congress and AMEE medical education innovation conference.
