ASM Global names new GM for Anchorage Convention Centers

ASM Global, a leading venue operator, has named Steve Rader as the new general manager of the Anchorage Convention Centers. With nearly 20 years of experience in the Alaskan hospitality and events industry, Rader brings extensive expertise from his previous roles, including management positions at the Lakefront Anchorage, McCormick Scottsdale hotels, Hilton Anchorage, and Anchorage Marriott Downtown.

Rader’s responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations of the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center and the William A. Egan Civic and Convention Center. These venues, managed by ASM Global since 2000, are part of the world’s largest and most diverse network of convention and trade show venues, offering significant space and facilities against the backdrop of the Chugach Mountains.

Michael Krouse, ASM Global’s regional vice-president, said: “This was an exhaustive [recruitment] search. Steve will bring an entirely new perspective to the Anchorage Convention Centers, and we look forward to his many contributions in growing our business and service levels to even greater heights.”

Rader expressed excitement about joining the team, aiming to foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and community engagement to solidify Anchorage as a leading destination for conferences and events: “I am thrilled to be joining the dedicated team at the Anchorage Convention Centers,” said Rader. “I look forward to fostering the current culture of excellence while encouraging innovation and further community engagement. Together we will create unforgettable experiences and elevate Anchorage as a premier destination for conferences and events of all kinds.”

Julie Saupe, president and CEO of Visit Anchorage, praised Rader’s operational, sales, and customer service background, noting his valuable network and experience for the benefit of convention center clients: “Steve brings not only operations and food and beverage experience but also has a strong sales and customer service background that will serve the Dena’ina and Egan Centers well. His experience in the meetings and events space, combined with his existing network of local contacts, has been put to use already and will be valuable to convention center clients.”

The Anchorage Convention Centers feature extensive meeting spaces and outdoor terraces with views of the Chugach mountains, alongside world-class catering, and significant native alaska art displays.
