A commissioned report on ‘Asian Business Travellers’, released by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) on 22 October, found that Asian business travellers are now enjoying greater autonomy and demanding more flexible travel policies.
The report, conducted by McKinsey & Company, surveyed 2,500 people across Asia and found that more than half of Asian business travellers view work trips fundamentally as a travel experience, with 69% of them exercising more freedom when choosing their airlines or hotels.
Booking and spending patterns were also analysed and Andrew Phua, director of exhibitions and conferences at STB said: “Asia is the largest business travel market in the world today, commanding 38% of global business travel spend worth US$1 trillion This is expected to grow to four times faster than North America’s to gain a further 5% of the global pie.”
Also in Singapore, Marina Bay Sands received the highest accolades from the local industry this week, taking home three awards from the Singapore Experience Awards 2015, for its work in MICE, retail and sustainability.
The resort was named ‘Business Event Venue of the Year’ and ‘Best Shopping Experience’ at the awards ceremony organised by STB, and is the second consecutive win for The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
“The awards are ringing endorsements of our successful integrated resort model and speak volumes of our passion, commitment and continued innovation to deliver the best results. We are proud to play a part in helping Singapore’s quest to be the top MICE destination in this region,” said Benny Zin, chief operating office and vice president of conventions and exhibitions, Marina Bay Sands.
