Tourism Malaysia triumphed at the 22nd annual World Travel Awards Asia & Australasia Gala Ceremony 2015, winning the accolade of Asia’s Leading Tourist Board. Malaysia also doubled up, taking the title of Asia’s Leading Destination.
The awards were hosted at the InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong hotel, 29 October.
Hong Kong was also among the winners, walking away with the trophies for Asia’s Leading Meeting & Conference Destination, as well as Asia’s Leading City Break Destination.
Suntec Singapore won Asia’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre Award for the 10th Consecutive Year.
“Suntec Singapore is thrilled to be the leading meetings and conference centre in the region once again. This honour will spur us to greater heights to be the most innovative and client-focused venue,” said Arun Madhok, CEO of Suntec Singapore.
World Travel Awards President Graham Cooke said: “It is an honour to recognise the leaders in Asian and Australasian hospitality here in Hong Kong this evening. Asia’s Leading Meetings & Conference hotel award went to One World hotel, Malaysia, and Asia’s Leading Airline was won by Singapore Airlines, with Hainan Airlines picking up the award for Best Business Class.
In the categories Down Under, Melbourne was awarded Australasia’s Leading Meetings and Conference Destination for the third year running and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) was named Australasia’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre for a fourth consecutive year.
MCB Chief Executive Officer Karen Bolinger said the award recognised the success of the collaborative city-wide Team Melbourne approach to winning and hosting business events.
“The average 190 events that we attract to Melbourne each year raise the city’s profile internationally and contribute around AUD$250 million in economic expenditure annually, helping drive Melbourne’s economy and supporting business.
“This accolade speaks volumes about Melbourne’s capability. I am extremely proud of our hard-won reputation as a world-leader in business events,” Bolinger said.
