Maastricht Convention Bureau has announced that the Netherlands city will host the 34th edition of the World Fashion Convention in October 2018.
The International Apparel Federation (IAF) will work with the Dutch fashion and textiles industry association Modint to put on the convention in Maastricht, 9-10 October 2018.
The decision to bring the convention to Maastricht was taken by the IAF board of directors during the 33rd World Fashion Convention in Rio de Janeiro.
The IAF is a global federation uniting fashion industry associations, brands, retailers and major suppliers to the industry. Through the Convention, the IAF offers a place for the fashion industry to meet, to be informed and to be inspired by top national and international speakers.
Previous speakers came from PVH, H&M, Hugo Boss, Desigual, Disney, VF, Zegna, Esquel and Escada, as well as McKinsey, BCG, the ILO, the World Bank and the OECD.
The Convention is a well-established event, bringing together leaders from the fashion industry from over 20 countries. On top of that, visitors get acquainted with the local fashion supply chain of the host country.
In Maastricht a new type of fashion industry is coming to life: more interdisciplinary and with a bigger focus on technology and on sustainability.
Jurgen Moors, director of the Maastricht Convention Bureau, said: “As a city and as a region we are glad to contribute to the success of this convention, mainly because it helps to position internationally the fashion industry and the creative industry. These industries are both well established in Maastricht. It is exciting to see Maastricht feature alongside such host cities as Mumbai, Hong Kong, New Delhi and Shanghai.”
The Convention will be held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Maastricht. Visitors will also be welcomed at the beautiful Maastricht townhall and the social highlight of the Convention, the gala dinner, will take place at Chateau St Gerlach.
