AFRICA – The John and Penny Group’s N$22m (US$2.6m) Ekamuti Lodge and Conference Centre in Ongangwa, Namibia has opened.
“The town of Ondangwa always struggled to host big conferences,” said Executive Chairman of the John and Penny Group, John Endjala. “We decided to open a new world of conference possibilities with the state-of-art facilities.”
The facility has an auditorium for 1,200 delegates, convention space for 600 delegates, 38 rooms, two bars, a restaurant, a gym and a massage parlour.
Namibian King Immanuel Kauluma Eliphas welcome the development and encouraged residents of Ondangwa and the northern region to support the facility.
Minister of Environment and Tourism Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, in a keynote address read on her behalf, said she welcomed the investment but cautioned players in the industry not to over-promise and under-deliver. She also stressed the importance of quality service that will ultimately make the difference and outlined various initiatives by her ministry to support the thriving hospitality and tourism industry.
The centre employs over44 permanent staff and 22 temporary staff. The Group in total employs 1,000 employees countrywide and is also involved in project management, catering and food services, civil construction, hospitality and services with operations in South Africa and Zambia.
It is one of the few indigenous companies with International Organisation for Standardisation (IOS) certification, a world-recognised certification on quality of business services and processes.
