Dresden gets ready for ECM Summer School

This year’s European Cities Marketing (ECM) Summer School will take place in Dresden, Germany, 26-30 August 2017.

Organisers of this 31st edition of the industry educational programme say they expect 50 new delegates to come to Dresden. The 30th ECM Summer School was held in Zagreb last year.

Since 1987, the ECM Summer School has provided a programme setting out the background and context of the meetings industry with a focus on European and international best practices.

Course content is adapted to staff who are just starting out in the sector and who quickly want to get up to speed, coming from convention bureaux, hotels, PCOs, DMCs, airlines, conference venues, and suppliers of ancillary and other products.

Students coming to the ECM Summer School will:

Learn

   Where to find clients

How to build a marketing plan and measure the success of your destination

   How to make a bid

What you can get for exhibiting to International Trade shows

How to work with the press

How to attract major associations or corporate clients

How to work with local partners: PCOs and DMCs

Practice

How to work with a team

How to run an efficient site inspection

How to build the best RFPs

“This school has always been the bridge to a successful career in the meetings industry, and has graduated more than 1,600 students – many of whom have gone on to become industry leaders. It’s a real pleasure to organise this year’s edition in beautiful Dresden,” said Bettina Bunge, ECM vice-president for the meetings industry and MD at Dresden Marketing Board.

“Despite tackling up-to-date issues like new technology, hybrid meetings and green meetings, the winning formula has remained the same: a unique opportunity for young professionals just entering the meetings industry to spend three days with some of the biggest names in our business.” added Pier Paolo Mariotti, course leader.

The faculty are all members/partners of ECM and give their time on a voluntary basis This year they include: Lone Alletorp Callard (Wonderful Copenhagen), Nalan Emre (IMEX Group), Luca Favetta (Professional Convention Management Association), Paul Flackett (IMEX Group), Cain Leathem (GB Fitness), Heike Mahmoud (Visit Berlin, Berlin Convention Office), Nicola McGrane (IAPCO), Christian Mutschlechner (Vienna Convention Bureau), Miguel Neves (IMEX Group), Colleen Phalen (DMAI), Dr. Julia Schellong (University Hospital Dresden), Dennis Speet (ICCA), Anja Stas (FMCCA), Daniel Waigl (CIRSE), Anne Wallin Rødven (InspirAR) and Kerstin Wünsch (tagungswirtschaft).
