IMPACT capitalises on Indian wedding trend

News

ASIA Thailand’s IMPACT Muang Thong Thani centre has launched a wedding promotion directed at the Indian wedding market.

The venue can accommodate up to 3,500 people and the current Indian wedding business tends to involve ceremonies lasting four to seven days and each worth over four million baht (US$130,000) on average.

Mr Chawanich Sirisinghol, Food and Beverage Director of IMPACT Exhibition Management Co quotes the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), that in 2012 more than 150 Indian couples held a wedding ceremony in Thailand involving an average of 200-25 guests, with wedding organisers in Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket all seeing significant growth.

“Indians put great importance on wedding ceremonies as they reflect social status. So people tend to overspend on their wedding celebrations, even occupying an entire hotel. It is less expensive to have a wedding in Thailand with its choice of venues, atmosphere, food and beverages as well as honeymoon destinations,” says Chawanich.

IMPACT has been holding the Indian wedding ceremonies in the Royal Jubilee Ballroom.

The venue has also brought in chef training for Indian cuisine in line with the ISO22000 standard for more than 50 dishes, from appetisers to main dishes, desserts and drinks.

Mrs Kunyanat Chaithanawasith, Assistant Director of Sales, says IMPACT has now come up with a special promotion for Indian weddings, offering a complete wedding package in any of IMPACT’s banquet halls such as Phoenix, Sapphire, or Jupiter Rooms, Grand Diamond Ballroom, and the Royal Jubilee Ballroom including spaces around the Banquet Hall. Buffets start from 1,000 baht per person.

Offers include a free honeymoon dinner at YaiYa Resort Hua-Hin for two days.

All told, weddings in Thailand account for more than 30 billion baht in revenue with a growth rate of 10-20 per cent per year and IMPACT says its promotion has helped increase its wedding market share by 5-10 per cent already this year.
