AU$93m sales for Perth Convention Bureau

News

The Perth Convention Bureau (PCB) claims to have delivered AU$93m worth of business events for the Western Australian state economy last year.

The PCB’s annual 2009-10 sales of $93m exceeded the target by 14 per cent. The previous year’s sales result was $66.6m.

“This is an outstanding performance when you take into account the strong Australian dollar and uncertainty caused by global economic circumstances. It provides an excellent return on the state government’s increased investment in marketing to secure business events,” says the tourism minister for Western Australia, Liz Constable.

“The business events sector, represents an important part of the tourism industry and we will continue to help maximise WA’s opportunities,” she says, adding that Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre had been a key factor in underpinning Perth as a convention destination.

PCB MD Christine McLean said the bureau had secured 134 conventions and incentive travel groups in 2009-10, representing an estimated 50,624 delegates. She said the estimated delegate spend represented a 39.6 per cent jump of $26.42m on the previous year’s sales result of $66m.
