BARBADOS – The Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) has announced the return of its annual Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development (STC), after a one year absence due “to the global economic crisis”.
Organised by the Barbados Ministry of Tourism, the 11th annual conference will be held 9–12 May 2010 in Bridgetown.
“We are delighted that we are able to once again bring together a wide range of experts and stakeholders to discuss the region’s sustainability,” says secretary general of the CTO, Hugh Riley.
The conference attracts delegates from regional and international tourism specialists, ministers of government, as well as developmental experts from the cultural, environmental and academic spheres.
The CTO’s sustainable tourism product specialist, Gail Henry, says: “We recognise that the development of the tourism sector in the Caribbean has to continue on a sustainable path. The Caribbean has an opportunity to lead advancements in this area while also creating valuable employment opportunities.”
